It will remain at 67,\u201d Morrison said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think we need that measure any longer when it comes to raising the pension age, and that\u2019s one of the things I\u2019ll be changing pretty quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morrison said he\u2019d been talking to colleagues about the change and plans to have it ratified by Cabinet next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe pension age going to 70 is gone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The surprise announcement came in response to a question from a Today Show viewer who asked why the new PM \u201cthought it was a good idea to have everyone working until they are 70?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morrison replied: \u201cWell, I no longer think it is\u201d, adding that he was going to make the announcement next week, but decided to do it now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government has struggled to get support for raising the retirement age in the Senate, as well as causing a backlash in the electorate.<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister Scott Morrison is scrapping a key Coalition policy to raise the retirement age to 70 and will keep it at 67.
